Sporting the same esthetic design concepts used in German luxury cars the Sennheiser HD 599 is one of the best headphones I have listened to under $300. What makes this pair of headphones brilliant is its luxurious soundscape that is presented in a very articulate manner with lots of detail and the sense of space. What's it good for? Music, gaming and movies so you got most of your bases covered. Not to mention the fact that they score very high on the comfort factor. Glasses no problem. Many devices try to emulate surround sound using various software algorithms that more often make the sound feel unnatural and obviously over processed. The beauty of this pair is that it will make you feel that you are at a live performance, you will hear all the nuances in your music without the need to enable distorting software effects on your device. To make it even sweeter the earpads and cables can be replaced when needed therefore you can be assured that the product will serve you for decades provided due care is extended in its handling and storage. What's more this pair is designed and produced by Sennheiser, a company with audio engineering in its DNA.
The Sennheiser HD 599 is compatible with a wide variety of devices including mobile phones. This is because unlike mainstream audiophile headphones such as Sennheiser legendary HD 600, the HD 599 is easily driven without the need to invest in expensive headphone amplifiers. However, while amplification will benefit sound further it is not a must to enjoy good sound. These are ideal for those on a budget as they can invest in the headphone and start enjoying their music on their laptop, desktop, tablet or mobile device straight out of the box. While it ships with a very sturdy cable ending with the large 6.3mm jack a converter is provided in the box. There are a plethora of after market accessories for this pair including headphone cables and earpads. I prefer to use my braided aftermarket headphone cable with the 3.5mm jack when on the go. These are actually intended to be armchair audiophile headphones because they are open in design and therefore do not block out noise from outside making them not ideal in noisy environments. You can purchase one here.
