Hailing from Norway, electronic music duo Svein Berge and Torbjørn Brundtland make up the band Röyksopp. The reason I chose this album from back in 2001 for this review is because it still remains my preferred album from this band and being their first album it is an authentic representation of musical creativity free from the influence of popular styles of music. The complex rhythm in "Röyksopp Night Out" and ethereal refrain of "A Higher Place" and not to mention the catchy hook of "Poor Leno". Overall a masterpiece of downtempo genre.
In more recent news Röyksopp has announced that while the band has no plans to disband; their most recent and highly rated album "The Inevitable end" will be their last in the traditional album format. The new album features many collaborations with other artists and boasts are more elctro-pop sound signature. Links to both albums given below.
